Method

  1. Pour 100ml out of the vodka bottle - you can keep this in the freezer for Christmas cocktails. Mix the rose water and caster sugar together until the sugar dissolves, then pour into the vodka bottle using a funnel.
  2. Wash any sugar off the Turkish delight, then put it in the bottle. Screw on the lid and leave to stand for up to a month, swirling occasionally until the Turkish delight dissolves. Serve with soda water and ice, or drizzle neat over vanilla ice cream for a boozy treat.

MAKE AHEAD

After a month, sieve out any remaining Turkish delight and keep for up to a year. To give as a gift, decant into smaller bottles, adding fresh chunks of Turkish delight.

has anyone made this yet? i made some last weekend and so far it looks terrible. the turkish delight has a film of what looks like cotton wool over it so no way will i be adding to the drink to give out, I think i will just tie a bag of turkish delight to the side, if it does come back transparent - at the moment it looks yellowy! not sure about this one I must say.

I made this last Friday and am hoping its ready for Saturday to take to a friend's house. It definately looks offputting at the moment - like Elaine says, i definatley wouldn't present it with turkish delight in the bottom (it looks a bit like chicken when the bright pink has dissolved!) but so far smells nice and i think if its strained before use it will be just fine. I'm sticking with it! will post at the weekend when its used - i may add some more rose essence as it wont have had had the full month to settle. fingers crossed!

I started my bottles on the 21st November and so far they do look a bit nasty with pink goo at the bottom. However like Laura I plan to strain before giving as gifts. Also I am not sure about putting the pieces in as decoration at the end as I am worried that they will also disintegrate and look horrid. As Elaine said I may add a tied bag with the bottle. By the way I am also trying a pistachio version using almond essence instead of the rosewater. I also used more turkish delight than mentioned to bump up the taste.

It would seem some people can't read a recipe. It clearly states wash off the sugar before adding the turkish delight to the vodka and leave for a month to allow it to disolve. Give it a chance!

I made this over a month ago and it's only beginning to mellow now, I think it will take another while before it's properly drinkable though! The "cotton wool" look that was mentioned happened to me too, I strained out the turkish delight after a week and added more that was chopped very finely and thoroughly washed. That made all the difference. It also gets shaken up every other day at least and the scent of it now is lovely.

I made this at the beginning of the month as a Christmas present. It still has a couple of weeks to go but already tastes amazing and the turkish delight is almost dissolved - they look like tiny marshmallows in the bottom of the bottle. It is almost clear, a slight pink tinge, but I shake it thoroughly everyday and once all the sugar from the turkish delight has dissolved into the vodka I imagine it will be even more delicious. I recommend that people stick with it, make sure the delight is properly washed and cut into tiny bits so it's easier to dissolve. Of course it's going to take a while for that amount of sugar to dissolve into alcohol, but it definitely works, and if you have turkish delight fanatics in your family like I do, they will love it.

Following my earlier post...such a successful recipe! Still didn't add more turkish delight as presentation as it really doesn't look as nice as the picture but an absolutely gorgeous drink and well recieved as presents (almost too nice to give away!). Could easily be a nice summer drink as well as a festive one...went perfectly with lemonade. gorgeous!

This was very easy to make. I only tried a little, as I am not really a spirit drinker, and actually quite enjoyed it. It was simple to make, and by all accounts, didn't last very long when recipients opened it. I'm not entirely sure what the point of adding the turkish delight was to be honest. It added colour, extra sweetness, and extra rose flavour. Colour was the only ingredient that hadn't already been added. After a month a swilling, most of it had dissolved. What did dissolve, left the vodka very cloudy, and I had to filter it out as others did. I will definitely make this again for presents.

I made this recipe as a gift to include in my hampers. I made it 8 weeks before I gave it away and it got better over time. it was delicious, I checked mine everyday and gave it a little shake to mix it together. taste was great and although all the turkish delight didn't dissolve it didn't matter. everyone enjoyed it and feedback was great, will definately be making again. I made 2 litres which all went. The smaller the turkish delight pieces the quicker it dissolves.

Made this last year as gifts and wnt down a storm ! It does look a bit odd but that's homemade for you. Apparently it is really strong and I've had several hints to make it again this year. Highly recommended

This is really delicious and I too have had lots of requests to make it again this year. Thinking of possibly doing a citrus version too with orange flower water and lemon turkish delight. Highly recommended!
