Method

  1. Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C/gas 5. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples and mix with the jam and orange juice. Spread evenly over a buttered 1.5-litre ovenproof dish, not too deep.

  2. Mix the oats, flour and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the butter in small chunks and rub in gently. Stir in the sugar and rub in again. Drizzle over the syrup, mixing with a knife so it forms small clumps. Sprinkle evenly over the apples and bake for 30-35 mins until the juices from the apples start to bubble up. Cool for 10 mins, then serve with custard, cream or ice cream.

absolutely delicious; a good alternative to traditional crumble which can be a little dry. I mixed in sultanas as well, and only did half the amounts. Will make again!

I made this for a family gathering for 7 adults and 3 kids. Compliments all round as everyone loved it - and not a scrap left at the end. Perfect!

I have done this recipe several times, I rarely use flour in the crumble, just increase the oats quantity or better yet use a very basic mueseli, you then get the oats with nuts and fruit! Marmalade works well instead of jam as well.

It turned out just great, fabulous taste and really so easy to prepare, I live in Ecuador S.America and so it was a fantastic treat for me to taste once again a lovely Hot apple crumble, Fantastic.

I have made this three times now - and LOVE it!! To be honest it is the flapjack topping that makes it - those chewy clusters are yummy! I did make one change - I used granny smiths apples for the sharpness and added a tin of pie filling for moistness (can be a bit dry otherwise. Gorgeous!!

Really nice crumble topping - I did find it a little sweet though - maybe needed to use sharper apples or less apricot jam.

I was really looking forward to trying this recipe but unfortuantly it didnt work for me.
I used eating apples but found them a little too sweet and would have prefered more of a tart apple or bramley
The topping was not too bad. It would make a good flapjack recipe

Lovely recipe! I used half Bramley apples and half eating apples. Didn't have apricot jam so I used a raspberry and redcurrant jam but only used half the amount. The whole family loved it. Thanks!

Great flavours however I went horribly wrong along the way somewhere as the apple section was swimming in liquid once cooked. :(

Making extra crumble is a must - I did 50% extra and only just had enough!

this is so delich!!!! we recently moved house an gained a apple tree in are back garden, i was looking for some recipes to use them up as it was a shame to let them go to waste. I came across this one an as my other half loves flapjack though it was a perfect recipe to try. It went down a treat will be cooking it many more times

I made this when I had a hole basket of grandma's apples and I didn't want to make a regular apple cake or pie - this was a very good replacment. Everybody loved it!

This was great for using up left over apples that I would have thrown away.
I didn't use the jam as was worried would be too sweet.
I added a sprinkle of mixed spice on the apples before the crumble topping.
The crumble was lovely with cream and would definatley do this again. very moreish.

I've made this loads of times now, and it keeps on getting better. Our favourite pudding by far - the chewiness of the 'crumble', the jam and juice with the apples....sigh. A must-serve after a big roast. I absolutely love it, one of those simple recipes that is easy to do but registers high on the impressometer! Goes a treat with pouring cream, but we'll definitely try it with the ice cream.

Gosh this was delicious, the hot chewy oats with vanilla ice cream were fantastic.

The orange worked well with the apple. I have done this before with cooking apples - squeeze in an orange and a lemon into the apple and sugar mixture. It really adds to the taste.

Tastes great and very easy. I made it with Golden Delicious apples and served with proper homemade custard. Went down a treat!
