Made this, turned out lovely and rich. Made a couple of substitutions, namely passata instead of chopped toms, way more paprika and carrots.

So Easy. So Quick. Rich, warming, tasty comfort food OR great dinner party meal. Was concerned about the comment about it being too bland so added possibly too much paprika and cayenne pepper. Had no fennel seeds or caraway seeds, so these did not feature. Also, I did not have mushrooms, but served it with steamed asparagus on the side to make up for the lack of veggies. My husband (Mr Fussy) gave a huge thumbs up. It was DElicious!! Will definitely be making this again. Like the suggestion to make double and freeze. Good idea.

I have made this twice now & it has been a hit both times. A real winter warmer!! I also add a dash of worcester sauce and about a half an hour before its cooked I add a tablespoon of flour mixed with water to thicken it up a bit.

Delicious - although I possibly put too many caraway seeds in it as it over powered the flavour somewhat - to remedy this, I mixed quite a bit more crème fraîche into it before serving. I froze half of it and it was even more delicious second time around - such a nice variation from the usual beef stews.

Made this for dinner last night, prepared it and popped it in the oven on a lower temperature of 150, before i went on the school run, it cooked in the oven for over 3 hours, very tasty, my husband had second helping's, my 5 year old daughter and 2 year old son were a little unsure, i think it was the caraway seeds, proberbly wouldn't make again as it's so much easier cooking a meal the whole family can enjoy. The beef was very tender too.

Thought this was a really tasty recipe. I added a mixture of normal paprika and also smoked paprika and also added a bit more than it says in the recipe. Also did not bother with the caraway seeds. My boyfriend likes this spicy and he enjoyed this and thought it was really good.

I made this last week and it was good but even better the next day once the flavours really developed! I did add a half teaspoon of dried chilli though as it was cold out and I wanted a really warming effect. Will be coking this again.

Had this tonight and it was lovely, really enjoyed it. Added a bit of ground hot chillie and it gave it a wee bit of a kick. Will definitely make it again. The gravy was beautiful.

Really good dish. Only two of us but made for 4 - now looking forward to it reheated in a jacket potato! I agree that it could stand a little more paprika and that was my only deviation from the recipe, although using the same quantity I used the smoked type and personally thought it worked well but it may not be for everyone.

Really tasty. Added more paprika and tomato puree as others had suggested and the sauce was lovely and thick. Went down a treat with everyone!

I have made this twice now. Both times without the caraway seeds and one time with a splash of red wine added. Must say it tasted a lot richer and flavorsome with the red wine! The last time I did it in the slow cooker and still came out fab! Prefer using beef Skirt or Shin. Fed me and partner for 2 dinners and cost less than £4.50 in total! Bargain

the paprika gives the flavour a real boost, and the slow cooking time makes for some seriously tender beef. A great recipe if your facing a busy day and want the food cooking so that you can pick it up when you get home.

Left out the garlic as members of the family don't like it, added smoked paprika and tomato puree, other than that followed the recipe. This is really tasty and I always make double or triple quantity so I can freeze some. When reheating I add a little flour to thicken and add a touch more tomato puree and smoked paprika to refresh the flavours. Great!

So I browned everything in two batches, and then transferred it to my slow-cooker, thinking that I'd allow it to cook for a good while and get nice and tender. After having went about and do my business, I checked in on the food only to find I hadn't turned the slow-cooker on! I set the cooker to "high" for 45 minutes, as I was starving, and it tasted great! Only thing is, I would use a little less caraway seeds, as they were packed with flavour, and...of course...let it cook for longer! Will definitely make this again :)
