  • 200ml hot chicken stock


  1. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Cook the potatoes in a large pan of salted water for 12-15 mins or until tender. Drain well, then return to the pan and allow to steam for 3 mins. Add some seasoning and the butter, then roughly mash with a fork and set aside until later.

  2. Meanwhile, cook the peppers and onion in a large pan for 5 mins – the water in the peppers should stop them sticking. Stir in the turkey mince, chilli and paprika and cook until browned. Pour in the stock, then bubble for 10 mins until thickened. Transfer the turkey mince into an ovenproof dish, top with the mash and cook for 30 mins or until golden and bubbling.

A good basis for a great recipe. I took the fundamental idea and expanded the ingredient content for a wonderful, vegetable filled meal by adding mushrooms and trading the potatoes for sweet potatoes. Alongside this, I traded the turkey mince for quorn mince (great for a vegetarian alternative). With the addition of lots of pepper and fresh herbs, the end result was wonderful.

Really good but it does need a little extra adding to really make it sing - I added tomato puree to the stock and extra chilli powder and mixed herbs to the meat. Grate a little cheese on top and you have a tasty, cheap and healthy midweek meal!

This was delicious but I did add a few ingredients, garlic, ginger,cumin and tumeric. Also a courgette to the peppers and onions. I swapped potatoes for sweet potatoes. So tasty!

I found this very bland, and the leftovers did not reheat well, they were very dry so we just drowned it in sauce to make it edible.

Delicious. I agree with other comments that this dish can take a lot more spice. I also added cheese to the top. Cheap, easy and going into my recipe collection.

Made this with beef and was a little approximate with measurements, but this is flipping delicious! The spice was fantastic even for one of us who doesn't like spiciness. Makes four filling portions.

Just made this now, I used canned tomatoes instead of stock like most people suggest, however, I thought it was a bit flavourless. I crushed up an oxo cube and added whilst cooking, and added a bit of chilli powder because I found one chilli didn't have much of an effect. Another tip I had was before putting the mash on top of the turkey, put some grated cheese on then the mash on top, then put in the oven, tastes a lot nicer.

I changed this to suit ingredients I had in. I used fresh peppers and leftover turkey meat and added garlic and tinned tomatoes with only a little bit of stock. Really tasty and different way to use up leftovers.

This is a winner in our house! I have 5 hungry mouths to feed so add more mince and peppers. I also add garlic and mild chilli powder but no more stock and put grated cheese on the potato 10 minutes before end of cooking time.

What a great dish...made a few alterations, added a tin of tomatoes,a handful of red lentils, a bit more chilli, salt and pepper and a pinch of sugar. I threw some mushrooms in as i had some left over to. The mash was 50/50 white potato and sweet potato with a good sprinkling of cheese on the top.Lovely alternative to cottage pie which i find can be a bit heavy sometimes. Loads left over for tomorrow.Nice autumn dinner to come home to.

This is delicious, we have cooked it several times. If it's too wet for some, you need to reduce the sauce more. It's fresh and simple and has a nice spice.
We often double up the quantities so we can freeze it for oven dinners.

Tried this yesterday. I added garlic & a tin of chopped tomatoes instead of the stock, but still added a chicken stock cube. Tried it halfway through and thought the flavour lacked depth so I added some dried mixed herbs and that seemed to do the trick. Served it with leeks for plenty of flavour too.I would make it again as Turkey mince makes a cheap meal and as there are only two of us it lasts for 2 days.

Made yesterday.0, used tomatoes instead of stock as thought it would be too liquidy! Will definitely do again with extra veg!

Could see that this needed tweaking to work so I used a tin of chopped tomatoes instead of the stock, crumbled a stock cube into the tomatoes and added a garlic clove to the peppers and onions in the first step. We like spicy food in our house so I used a good pinch of chilli flakes and substituted hot paprika for smoked paprika. I also put cheese on the top of the mash before putting it into the oven. Clean plates all round.

Ok recipe, i used harissa paste instead of chilli, didnt thicken up enough for real comfort food

This worked really well, I used fresh peppers - one red and one yellow, cut into strips. Unfortunatley the only chilli I had was a padron one, so it didn't give any heat, but I think that a good chilli would make it better! Half the pie is in the freezer awaiting a cold night after a long day at work!
