Method

  1. Heat the oil in a frying pan, then add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 mins. Tip in tomatoes and passata, and simmer for 5-10 mins or until the tomatoes are soft. Remove from the heat, stir in the basil, season, then allow to cool.

  2. Put the flour into a bowl. Make a well in the centre, add the olive oil then add 6-7 tbsp warm water or enough to make a soft dough. Tip the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to fit a 22cm frying pan or make 2 small ones. Heat a glug of olive oil in the frying pan, then press the dough into the pan and cook over a medium heat for 8-10 mins or until the base is golden.

  3. Heat grill to hot. Spread the pizza base with the tomato sauce, scatter on the cheese and grill until it has melted and the base is golden at the edges. Serve immediately.

If you want to make this without a grill then just cover the pan with a lid once you have put the toppings on. The pizza won't brown but it will melt the cheese nicely. I don't have a grill in my kitchen and this is how I get round the problem.

I have a camping stove with a grill, so will give it a go. Measuring jug will do the flour. Let you know how we get on.

Also, if you're planning the meal, why not weigh everything out before hand? Saves a lot of time!
It's all about preparation! Call yourself campers? ;P

A lot of camping hobs/stoves these days do have grills on them. To make toast mainly.
I for one will definitely be giving it a go.

Makes more camping sense as an omelette unless of course you've pitched up in a Winnebago complete with pastry chef to do the flour arranging lol

Whenever I go camping I always get a niggling worry that I've forgotten something important. Now I know it's the grill I've been missing! How have I coped? Now to work out how to fit that into a 50l rucksack...or maybe I'll settle for some tasty calzone.

This works well on a BBQ just put the frying pan on BBQ or use foil (dont forget to oil it)

step 3 "Heat grill to hot!" WHAT GRILL ! Oh well just turn it over.

Don't know about you, but I'm not used to packing a grill when I go camping... No-oven pizza?! Not entirely true.

Had a few disasters with this!! Mainly mixing the hot oil and passata so making oil fireworks!!!

Turned out OK in the end though apart from the mess!!!!!
