Method

  1. Heat a splash of oil in a frying pan, add the onion and celery, season with pepper and a little salt, then cook until soft. Remove vegetables and set aside. Brown the mince in the pan, a handful at a time, tossing with a fork as you go. Only add a splash of oil if the mixture begins to stick too much. Once browned, tip into a sieve to remove any excess fat.
  2. Return mince and cooked veg to the frying pan, add the chilli powder, tomatoes, tomato purée, beans and stock, bring to the boil and simmer for 15 mins.
  3. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Cook the pasta according to pack instructions. Drain, stir into the mince and spoon into a large lasagne dish. Mix the yogurt, eggs, cheese and garlic together and season lightly. Spoon over the top of the pasta and bake for 20-25 mins or until lightly browned.

A really tasty meal. There is definitely more than enough for four - unless you live with two hungry rugby players like I do! I used mushrooms instead of celery, and used hot chilli powder instead of mild for an extra kick. I also used half fat creme fraiche instead of Greek yoghurt which gave the topping a lovely taste and texture. Despite being unsure about the topping when I first took this dish out of the oven, I have to say that it was delicious and that I will definitely be cooking this again.

Hey Mischef, can your husband eat vegan cheese? Some vegan cheeses can be used in cooking, you can buy it from health food shops.

I added garlic and left out celery. Also just grated red leicester, cheddar and parmesan on top and left it at that. Very filling and very tasty

I left out the celery, added a leek, lots more garlic, a bit of cinnamon and ground coriander. Everybody loved it including my two year old son!

This dish is a perfect mid-week meal. I prepared it for some friends and they loved it! They couldn't beleive i cooked it! Reading some of the comments i used cheddar and parmesan cheese together with some breadcrumbs instead of the topping mix. Absolutely will be making again! :)

Great recipe and a great find. Simple, easy to prepare yet delicious. Healthy wintery comfort food, ideal for a quick midweek meal or saturday night dvd curl-up fare. I added garlic too and plenty of the stuff (a garlic fan!!) and used instead for the topping fat free fromage frais, simply because that is what I had in the fridge. Definitely will make again - and soon!!

Very nice and easy to make. I`am not agreat lover of the Greek yogurt though. The rest of the family did however. As per other comments about the number it will serve.. they all must be Desperate Dans to shift this in four portions

I really didn't enjoy this meal at all. I found it very dry and boring and so did all the family. I have frozen the leftovers and looking at other comments, this is probably a bad idea. I won't be making this again.

I really enjoyed this although my tribe weren't too keen on the topping, so next time I'll just sprinkle grated cheese on top.

This dish takes quite a while to make, and the results are nice but not outstanding. I added more seasoning, and even then its a bit dull. Next time I try I would probably add more herbs and some other things to bring some interest. However its perfectly good midweek food, and very cheap to make.

This is easy enough and tasty enough for a mid-week meal but not anything special. One good thing about this recipe is the portions are huge - so it's good if you're feeding hungry people - you could easily make this feed six if you served it with a salad as well. It's not bad, but I wouldn't be in a terrible hurry to make this again, there's many more delicious meals to be had.

A bit of a combo of chilli con carne, lasagne and mousaka. Very nice. 300g of pasta is way too much though!

This sounds great. Will defo be giving this a try. ThomMitch has said its a bit like a combo of Chilli con Carni/Lasagne/Moussaka, it does sound like it so im going to add a touch of nutmeg to the topping. I will be back to comment on this dish, i have all the ingredients in (apart from mince) to make this, so im going to grab some decent mince and give it a bash.x

I love this recipe however I did increase the amount of chilli andused hot rather than mild. Think it serves 6 easy rather than 4 as its very filling.

This was soooo yummy, i could eat the topping on its own never mind the chilli part! I'd go easy on the celery and up the cheese measurement but otherwise really flavoursome :)
