Does it matter what side of the toast the marmite goes on?

This is a recipe my mother handed down to me, I've always been reluctant to do it as I was nervous it wouldn't taste as good as hers... no need for me to worry, turned out perfectly
Thank You so much for bringing back some childhood memories.

P, I have not yet managed the bay leaf garnish but I am working towards it! Small steps!

As a very inexperienced cook myself, I found this recipe quite daunting at first. On my first attempt, I managed to thoroughly decimate the seeded bread, perhaps due to it's fragile consistency. However, once I had replaced the bread for a more sturdy wholemeal pitta, this recipe was a great success! Thank you so much, you have revolutionized mealtimes in my house.

This is a GREAT recipe, and not too time-consuming. I had to make a few substitutions (a jacket potato for the bread, cheese for the Marmite, and chopped spring onion for the bayleaf), but it still turned out really well.

I tried this recipe and found that there was a little too much marmite for my personal tastes so I substituted marmalade for marmite and now it is one of my favoritec. Thanks x

Thanks so much for this recipe! Things weren't good at home with me and my wife, they hadn't been for over a year. She always considered my performance in the kitchen sub-par, and the cracks were really starting to show...

Last week however, I brought her breakfast in bed and used this marmite on toast recipe. It worked a treat! I have made marmite on toast before and used various recipes from friends and family, but to no avail. As soon as she tasted this particular batch everything changed! We have been so close this week and are now trying for another child. I think it was the bay leaf.

Thanks so much
