  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • packet of 8 pork sausages (the best your budget will allow) cut into chunky pieces
  • 1 large onion, chopped

  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 300g short pasta such as fusilli or farfalle (just over half a 500g bag)

  1. Put a large pan of water on to boil. Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the sausage chunks on a fairly high heat until they are golden brown all over. Now turn the heat down and add the onion and garlic, cooking them until they have softened.
  2. Stir in the chilli powder and tomatoes with the sausages, bring the sauce to the boil then turn the heat down and let it bubble for about 10 minutes while you cook the pasta.
  3. Drop the pasta into the pan of boiling water and cook according to the pack instructions. Drain the pasta, then tip it into the frying pan with the sausage sauce, mixing well to coat. Dish up immediately with crusty bread.

This is such a cheap and easy meal. I was surprised at how tasty it was! Definitely a great weeknight dish when you're short of time but still want something hearty.

Fab easy recipe! I made a few tweeks (added mushrooms and more chilli powder, used penne pasta) and reduced the sauce from the tomatos right down so its a sticky sauce smothering all the lovely pasta! Id suggest adding salt and pepper during the cooking too as can taste like its missing something ... Very impressed overall!

Had no idea what to cook tonight and found this recipe. It was perfect, quick and easy to make, tasted great and most importantly met with approval from my teenage son. Will definitely make this one again.

Was expecting to find this a bit dull but had sausages to use up and needed something that would please whole family. It was delicious! My tweaks - added some Parma ham (needed using up), at the end is stirred in some cream cheese, then served up the kids portions, before adding some spinach and a bit of chilli powder to ours. Really lovely and everyone wants it again next week :)

I made this a while ago now, but was very nice. Was worried chilli powder would taste too spicy, but it gives a lovely kick. So easy and made the exact right amount. No leftovers, so must mean everyone else thought it was delicious too!

I cooked my pasta in with the sausages and sauce to save on washing up so increased the cooking time to 20 mins. It was tasty, cheap and easy :)

Was wonderful, I added a whole medium chilli instead of chilli powder, it gave it a nice kick!

Loved this, I added tomato puree and philadelphia which make it lush. I also added fresh rosemary but felt that it added an odd flavor to which my husband stated 'only use basil in tomato based food'.

Become a family favourite. I also add chorizo and a teaspoon of chipotle chilli and smoked paprika paste, for extra kick.

Really lovely and so simple! I shaved a carrot in the sauce for extra veggies and put two spoons of chilli powder instead of one. Very tasty and much appreciated by my hangover boyfriend :)

Easy and cheap to make and was a nice change to 'normal' pasta dish. A hit with all five of us, even 9 month baby.

i love this recipe, really tasty! towards the end i usually add philadelphia or mascarpone and stir in until melted. It gives a creamier taste.
