  • 4 tbsp dark muscovado sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

  1. In a large microwaveable dish, mix the ketchup, vinegar, sugar and garlic thoroughly with the chicken, onion and peppers. Microwave, uncovered, on High for 8-10 minutes until the chicken is starting to cook and the sauce is sizzling.

  2. Stir in the pineapple pieces and sugar snap peas and return to the microwave for another 3-5 minutes until the chicken is completely cooked. Leave to stand for a few minutes, then stir in the cashews, if using, and serve.

awfully sweet! will try it again with less sugar- otherwise this was a hit. My husband really liked it, but the sweetness did kind of stick to the mouth. Worth trying though, if you haven't done so!!

I was sceptical about this as I don't like tomato ketchup or vinegar but was swayed to try as so many 5 stars, also looking for recipes for 18 yr old son to cook.
As others, I cooked in frying pan, chicken first then everything else in plus baby corn.
Absolutely FAB, well done Good Food as always. (forget the microwave though).
Definitely having this again, may add a bit of ginger & chilli next time

I made this for the first time last night for my partner and we really enjoyed it. I did not use the microwave, instead I sealed the chicken in a pan and put it in oven proof dish with all the ingredients including the sauce and put it in the oven for 15-20 minutes and was lovely, definitely having this again.

Didn't use microwave and added a splash of water. Was really tasty - very quick and as others have said better than the gloopy takeaway!

Just made this dish and it was soooo lovely. I cooked mine in a wok rather than the microwave. I also added some of the pineapple juice to give it at little extra sauce. I will make again.

This tastes EXACTLY like a takeaway, but without the "gloopiness" of a takeaway sweet and sour. I too cooked in a wok, and was pleasantly surprised at how lovely and tender the chicken turned out too. My fussy daughter and sweet and sour hating husband both gobbled it up and asked for more! Will def be making this again!!

Wow! I made with left over pork from a joint and just added the already cooked sliced pork at the last minute. Truly delicious and much much nicer than any chippy! Defo make again, maybe with chicken or even prawns. Winner in my eyes.

Great! Followed microwave method and it was delish! Definitely a 'keepsie'. Whole family including an exceedingly fussy 21 year old ate every last scrap. Did it with noodles.

Cooked this for my friend and I who are dieting. Chose to cook in the wok instead of microwave and ate it with fine egg noodles. Absolutely delicious. Would definately make again.

I made it in a microwave and the chicken was lovely, moist and soft. The veg was crisp. Perhaps the sugar snap peas needed longer. This is the best homemade sweet and sour sauce ever!

I swapped muscovado for demerrera.
