Method

  1. Preheat oven to fan 180C/conventional 200C/gas 6. Put a generous half-teaspoonful of sunflower oil in the bottom of each cup of a deep 12-hole mini muffin pan set on a baking tray.
  2. Pour the milk into a jug, add the egg, flour and a pinch of salt and whisk everything together with a hand blender or wire whisk until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Put the muffin pan in the oven for a minute or so until the oil is very hot. Carefully remove from the oven and quickly fill the cups just under two-thirds full (this may not seem enough batter, but they puff up in the oven). Drop a sausage into each cup and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, well risen and crisp. Serve with ketchup.

Yummy!! I made these for a party with some pease pudding to serve and they dissappeared very quickly!! I did some with veggies sausages too. I could only get six toads out of the quantities given though and I have made them several times now.

made these with the grandchildren for a saturday supper and they were delicious. I used ready cooked cocktail sausages and they were fine. I usually have a problem with sticking yorkshires but these all came out perfectly.

After reading the comments I doubled the quantity of Yorkshire batter. Think in future I'll try 1 1/2 times the recipe quantities as my Yorkies came out huge with a weeny lil sausage inside! That said they looked yummy and my little one loved them. Super quick and easy to make too.

These were so easy to make I couldn't believe it. My work colleagues who are very much over 5 enjoyed them tremendously. I did however find that I had to use twice the batter than the recipe suggested for a batch of 12 so bear that in mind if you would like them a bit more substantial. Great recipe overall.

haven't used this particular recipe but if your kids are dairy intolerant replace the milk with rice milk (oatly milk is too thick).

I made this for dinner and it was awesome! I doubled the ingredients and that was a good amount for 2 very hungry adults and one child. I used my new silicone muffin tray, so they didn't stick at all - very impressive. Next time I'm going to try some with no oil to make them less greasy. Though that might detract from their deliciousness! I used normal chunky sausages, but chopped them into chunks - worked well.

Great idea - I struggle to get my toad in the hole to rise in a big pan, but theses are easy peasy. Kids liked them.

great quick meal but Rashani G is dead right the mixture will only make 8 not 12, I last posted a comment 12 Sept 2008 been making them ever since, 130ml of milk and 75g of flour is about right for making 12 though!
