Method

  1. To make the tuna balls, tip the tuna and its oil into a large bowl and stir in the breadcrumbs and grated cheese. Add the beaten egg and chives, then season with a pinch of salt and stir again until everything is well mixed.
  2. Form into 12 balls the size of ping-pong balls, then chill until you're ready to cook.
  3. Cook the pasta according to packet instructions, dropping in the peas for the last couple of minutes. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat and fry the balls for 8-10 minutes, turning often, until they're golden brown. Drain them on kitchen paper and keep warm.
  4. Drain the pasta, return to the pan and add the corn. Heat gently for a minute, stirring occasionally, until heated through. Serve with ketchup.

This meal is quick, easy and perfect for kids. The tuna balls went down a storm and are also great on their own as nibbles at parties.

Brilliant. I made them with a 185g can of tuna in brine, panko breadcrumbs and no chives. No chance of any getting frozen tho as between my daughter's dinner portion and myself and husband snacking on them they went in one sitting. My 2 yr old has renamed them yummy balls.

Much better recipe than the last attempt i made at tuna patties, as the cheese stops it drying out too much. Really pleased with the result this time, although i used mature cheese which made it taste extra salty.

Had the tuna balls with spaghetti and tomato sauce. I'd use less oil in the frying pan next time as there's oil in the tuna already. Didn't add the chives but still v tasty. We made double and the leftovers were nice the next day.

Clean plates and happy 3 year old twins - need I say more! Very easy to make, not sure you need to fry the balls in oil as fine in a good non-stick pan without it.
