Method

  1. Cook the potatoes and swede in boiling water until tender (about 20 minutes).
  2. Preheat the oven to 190C/gas 5/fan 170C.While the potatoes and swede cook, put the soft cheese and stock into a large saucepan and heat gently, stirring with a wooden spoon, until blended and smooth. Now add the blended cornflour and cook until thick.
  3. Stir the fish into the sauce with the prawns and parsley. Season with some pepper.
  4. Tip the mixture into a 1.5 litre/2¾ pint baking dish. Drain the potatoes and swede, mash them well and season with black pepper. Spoon the mash over the fish to cover it completely. Bake for 25-30 minutes until piping hot, then transfer to a hot grill for a few minutes to brown the top. Serve with frozen peas or sweetcorn.

This was plate lickingly lovely. I used salmon and frozen seafood cocktail. Fabulous. Took hardly any time. Just do it :-)

I made the 'budget' version with a fish pie mix. I thought it was really tasty and easy and will be dfinitly be making this again. Great mid week meal, the second half of the pie is in the freezer for when I don't feel like cooking! Great!

Have made this three times in 3 weeks. The kids love it and so do we. For even less calories, substitute celeriac and sweet potato for the mashed potato.

I used frozen fish pie mix to make it cheaper and added extra prawns and leeks which make it a little special. I used extra light cream cheese with garlic and herbs which made it even lower fat/calories and gave the sauce so much flavour. The sauce was thick and stuck to the fish which is what is needed in a fish pie. I also did a mix of sweet potato and white potato for the topping making it different. I made it twice in a week I loved it so much, and once was after work which only took 45mins from start to finish which ain't too bad for a tasty filling dinner.

Very yummy. Used salmon, cod and smoked salmon and mushroom. Sauce tend to thicken up quite quickly so added water along the way!

I've been using this fish pie recipe for a long time now. It's so easy to make and always tasty. I've varied it in different ways, for example I've used the fish pie mixes of fish rather than just cod, and I've changed the type of soft cheese used, last time I tried it with sweet chilli soft cheese which was lovely. I always smash a few cream crackers up mix them with some grated cheese and sprinkle them over the top for extra crunch, yum!

Ooops, forgot to say, I used a mixed fish pie pack from Tesco which had haddock, smoked haddock and salmon in it - the smoked fish really adds flavour :)

Easy to make and very tasty. I didn't have any prawns so used mushrooms and peas instead. I would definitely make this again continue to use mushrooms and peas even with prawns.

Amazing. First time EVER making a fish pie because it always looks so daunting, but this made it ridiculously easy - just a case of juggling the timings.
It took longer than 1 1/4 hours though!
I swapped the prawns for button muchrooms and I also pan fried some streaky bacon beforehand, cut it up and slipped it into the mixture for an extra flavour. I also grated some extra strong cheese on the top for the last 5 minutes. Result?? AMAZING! I made so much that I've invited friends over tomorrow night to finish it off.
Will certainly make this again!!! 5 stars.

As we are not a great prawn eating family I replaced the prawns with smoked bacon. Most tasty fish pie we have tried recently and empty plates all round (including our 14 month old). Thank you.

GORGEOUS!!!!!! I made this today having bought some bags of frozen fish, I added 1 frozen salmon steak, 2 smallish pieces of white fish & a smoked haddock, Just before topping with the potato/swede mix I added some chopped mushrooms & a handful of frozen peas, I didnt have any garlic & herb soft cheese so added usual phili light & just added some garlic powder & mixed herbs from the cupboard, the result, fantatsic!!!
Both my children (5&3yrs) cleared their plates, they had theirs with broccoli & myself & husband had a portion with a salad & we still have half left!!
Its most def going to be a regular in our house!!!

I just had this for my dinner and I can honestly say that it's the best fish pie I've ever had. I used haddock and salmon instead of cod and replaced the prawns with the suggested mushrooms and peas and used a 150g garlic and herb roule and omitted the parsley. I also added a generous knob of butter to the mash (old habits die hard). Easy, extremely tasty and very filling. Will definitely be making this over and over again.

Great recipe, so easy and really delicious! Plus no-one would guess it's half the calories and 1/8th(!) of the fat of normal fish pie. Highly recommended, will definitely be making this again.

I made it 'mare monte' style, using smoked and raw haddock and salmon, peas & mushrooms, prawns and a few mussels. Probably amazing with some white wine thrown in as well but didn't have any...
