  1. Pop the banana chunks on a flat tray and cover well. Freeze for at least 1 hr, or until frozen through. When ready to eat throw the banana into a food processor and whizz until smooth with enough of the milk to achieve a creamy texture. Scoop into 4 bowls or glasses, then top with the sauce and nuts.

Amazing! I couldn't believe how much this tastes like real banana ice cream. I needed to keep it in the freezer for a few hours to give it an ice cream texture after ab hour it was more like half melted ice cream. I sometimes add a little cocoa powder to make it banana and chocolate flavoured and made by own chocolate sauce by melting dark chocolate in the microwave and adding a spoonful of half fat creme fraiche.

Oh. My. Goodness. This is amazing!! I used 2 bananas, 2 tbsp almond milk, 1tspn sugar and some vanilla essence. The taste and consistency was exactly like proper banana ice cream. Brilliant!

lovely way to use up brown bananas. Kids loved it. Great with some good coco added ro taste to make a choco-nana pudding.

I love this recipe! I just blended the banana and milk with some frozen blueberries I happened to have in the freezer - excellent flavour and great consistency! Nice healthy dessert.

You can just freeze the banana, leave to thaw a little then put in a food processor till a nice creamy mixture.....you can eat as it is or add peanut butter etc.
You can also freeze other fruits like raspberries/strawberries or mango and mix in with the banana when processing it.

Tried this over the weekend and found it to be quite pleasant, although it did have what I'd imagine to be the consistency of frozen baby food. Probably wouldn't bother with it again.

Tastes good but wouldn't say it was very icecreamy...although that may be because I only made a portion for 1 so there was only a small amount in the food processor which made blitzing more difficult. Great healthy pud though!!!

I couldn't see how this would work - but it did! Hubby and me both loved it - me more so because it was soooo easy and so healthy! I didn't have any toppings or nuts, just added half a tsp of runny honey to the processor - it was great, just enough sweetness. Will def make again...and again.

At first I was really skeptical, and expected this ice cream to turn out become a mushy pile of bananas - I was wrong. As the bananas freeze, the texture hardens and creates a smooth, custard like liquid when blended. A fabulously healthy substitute for ice cream.

I find it a bit bland with the bananas alone, though. So I'll probably add some honey or vanilla to improve the flavour of the ice cream.

You are right, bananas have enough vegetable grease to put that much cream. I have made one myself with egg whites and some condensate milk and it is delicious.

Awful recipe! Looks and tastes nothing at all like ice-cream, made it for my whole family and everyone agreed it was rubbish. Will definitely NOT be making this again!

I served this with some Baked Apples (recipe on this site) and skipped the chocolate/toffee sauce. I wasn't sure it would really work but tasted lovely. I had some left over so popped it in the fridge and put it in the freezer for an hour or two the next day prior to serving and it worked again. Will make again, good way to use up ripe bananas and good quick option to serve as easy pudding.

I really did not think that this would work and my partner was even more dubious, however we both loved it! It tastes like you would expect banana ice cream to taste! Fantastic!

Brilliant Recipe!
Brilliant idea and taste, very easy to make, my mother-in-law thought I got an ice cream machine! I used whipping cream instead of milk as I needed to use it up and I added one tablespoon honey. I froze what was left of it, and the taste and texture both kept well.

Fantastic after school treat for children, so easy to make and totally delicious! We added a touch of honey to the banana and milk but did not need the sauce, nuts etc. I agree with the other contributors that this is a brilliant way of using up left over bananas.

Great recipe, I used low fat creme fraiche instead of milk, just to make it a little naughtier but still low fat. I also toasted some pecans left over from christmas and topped it with cinnamon and amaple syrup - yum!

I suspect anyone who doesn't think it's anything like ice cream, isn't blending it for long enough. Personally, I don't add any milk or cream! Or anything else for that matter. All I do is freeze a chopped up banana and then blend it! It's exactly like ice cream. And a banana is so sweet, you don't need sugar in it unless you have a really sweet tooth.

When you blend it initially, it will form a granular, oat like texture... powdery almost. And because it takes longer to blend than you might imagine, you may stop at this point and think that's it. It isn't. Keep blending until the bananas suddenly 'go' and the texture transforms into a smooth ice creamy texture. You can refreeze it if you want to, to make it harder, or eat it in this smoother state. Do try it WITHOUT the milk, or indeed any other ingredients first - just so you can see that it is a success without anything else added. How many other recipes can you make with only one ingredient and no cooking?! It's good fun to do with children as there's a magical quality about the transformation.
