  1. Place the fish in a deep frying pan, then add the milk, stock and thyme. Bring to the boil and take off the heat; leave until cool enough to handle. Take out the fish (reserving the liquid), peel off the skin and flake the fish onto a plate, to use later.

  2. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large saucepan. Gently fry the onion, garlic and leek for 8-10 mins until soft and translucent. Add the sweet potato, sweetcorn and lentils, then pour over the liquid you cooked the fish in. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 mins. Check the seasoning and semi-blitz with a hand blender – I like to leave it quite rough. Add the flaked fish and chopped parsley. Serve piping hot with some crusty bread.

Used 250g of smoked haddock and added chicken stock instead of vegetable and as it had to be dairy free, I used unsweetened soya milk. The result was delicious and looks a lovely colour with the sweet potato. Definitely a recipe to come back to.

Love the recipe! Simply love the taste...I added cayenne pepper to give it some heat which elevated the taste....for chilli lovers ofcourse

This is a lovely recipe and makes an impressive dinner party starter. I used an ordinary potato as my hubby is not keen on sweet potatoes. Simple to make, healthy and very tasty.

I think I used too much sweet potato in this, and as a result it looked very unappetizing once partially blitzed. I would use only ordinary potato in the future (and wouldn't bother with the blitzing). Made it with salmon rather than haddock and it tasted really good - just looked horrid!

Am on a mission to try new recipes from this site and this was my first!
Really enjoyed the take of this was much more moreish than i expected so was a lovely warming treat!
Did not have any leeks but did not seem to make the chowder any less tasty.
Anyone had any other ideas of what vegetables can be used in this to give it extra texture?

Easy to do and very tasty - I prepared it exactly as instructed and it was excellent! Great for cold winter evenings when you need warming up. Healthy but still filling and satisfying.

Yum, worked really well! I substituted frozen broad beans for lentils and simmered for just 20mins and it worked perfectly. Just cut the sweet potato into small dice and mushed it up a bit in the pan rather than blending, it was delicious!

Really loved this, I didn't have smoked haddock but prefer unsmoked anyway, used a piece of salmon and threw some raw king prawns in the last minute. Didn't have sweet potato so used some leftover new potatoes and added at the last stage.
Very very tasty, will repeat this one!
