Method

  1. Put the onion in a pan with 1tsp oil and fry gently for 5 minutes or until it starts to soften, add the turmeric, garlic, ginger and red chilli and keep cooking for a few minutes until you end up with a rough, fragrant paste. Add the tomatoes and simmer for 10 minutes, adding a splash of water if you need to. Stir in the prawns and cook until they turn opaque. Serve with rice or Indian bread, topped with a dollop of yogurt.
Try

Making it healthier

You don't need to fry the base of a curry in lots of oil: a tsp is enough to start the onions. Tomatoes make a good low-fat base, then use low-fat yogurt to add creaminess at the end. Don't add the yogurt to the dish as it cooks or the acidity in the tomatoes plus the heat may make it split.

Felt there was something lacking from this, found it a little bland.

Made this tonight and although we all enjoyed it it wasn't very 'curry-like'. Another time I would add some Garam Masala or curry paste to make it a bit more Indian tasting. Very filling though served with basmati rice and a bit of naan.

Lovely, I put too much ginger in by accident but it didn't detract from the lovelyness so I'll probably put the same amount in again :) really nice. I made it for myself initially, I love prawns, but I'm making it for the family today.

This is a filling recipe, if that's what your looking for. However, it is totally bland in flavour, I added twice the amount of spices required and that wasn't enough to pick it up. Mostly it just tastes like prawns with a tomato sauce, and it is very good if that's the dish you want, but if you're looking for a curry then don't bother.

Really yummy. I added a bit too much chilli though! But the yoghurt cools it down. I added coriander on top and lots of black pepper.

This is a poor recipe. It was more like a tomatoe soup with a bit of prawns..... the 4 stars are very misleading..... :(

Just prawns in tomatoes, nothing like a curry and not particularly tasty.

A great little recipe. I added a little more spice but that's what's great about such a simple recipe, you can tweak it to personal taste easily.

A lovely easy recipe. I made it for myself and accidentally put in twice as much spices as recommended but it tasted great, especially with some added Garam Masala and lemon juice. Will def be making it again.
