  my daughter and i made this using raspberrys instead of the glace cherrys took a bit longer to cook but turned out beautiful added raspberrys to the top as well it only lasted the day will be making again this weekend

  I made this last week for a cake and candy fundraiser my little boy was doing at primary school. I used pink marshmallows and sprinkled some crystalised roses and while chocolate chips on the top as well as the glace cherries and it looked gorgeously girly and tasted divine.

  I made these for my childrens red nose day cake sale. The marshmallow frosting is not nice. I can't believe this has been tested. When the frosting is cooling it thickens and sets, then you stir it as suggested and you get a gloopy gelatinous consistency that is slightly lumpy, very akin to the stuff in kids aliens eggs. Because it has gelatin in the marshmallows it doesn't spread that easily and is slightly springy and very shiny. So they do not look nice. On searching on the internet for marshmallow frosting all of them have butter added so I think there may have been a mistake here.

  Really disappointed. I made this for Red Nose Day bake sale but didn't take it in as the marshmallow frosting didn't work. I spread the mixture when warm, not having a lot of time before work. When I tried to cut the cake up the knife took the frosting with it. I also think the mixture could do with more cherries.

  I also believe the receipes are not tested - the number of times I have wasted time and money on receipes which have been rubbish - in fact I would go so far to say I dont believe anything is tested - it's all a con. these cakes are tastless, there could be more cherries in it - the way of dealing with this frosing is NOT to let it cool - if you take a teaspoon and put a big spoonful on each slice and spread with the back of the spoon while the cakes are still warm then put the cherries on top - look good but taste of nothing.

  I made these for an Open day in our village tomorrow. I have just tried to put cling film on it and it COMPLETELY stuck to the frosting and ruined the whole cake - you just couldn't peel it off as the frosting is SO sticky. The cake tastes nice, but the frosting is a disaster. I would NEVER make these again. Are they tested as you say they are? Like the 2 previous remarks, I have my doubts as surely the frosting would have been changed if you had tested properly. Apart from the problem I have just mentioned, the texture isn't very pleasant. What a waste of money and effort.

  Excellent recipe. Made these for a b'day party and they were gobbled up. Didn't make the toping from marshmallow as I didn't fancy it (glad I didn't judging from other comments) and used butter icing instead with dessicated cocunut sprinkled on top with the cherries which worked well

  Its a nice cake recipe. After reading the feedback i did'nt make the marshmallow topping and the rest works like a dream. Also added nearly 200gms of glace cherries that made it more like a yummy cherry cake. My husband cant get enough of it!

  i would just like to say this recipe is fantastic , i made the marshmallow topping and just chilled it in the fridge so the topping set a bit harder and then sliced it , took a max of 10mins to chill , and i can safely say , it didnt last 10 mins in my house , so much so my daughter is making it again as i type this out . Thank you for your great recipe .

  A two step recipe, which in my opinion needs to expanded on furthur, you cant just throw everything in a mixing bowl and hope for the best !. i found the recipe a little strange and was worried it would be gloopy, however it did mix beautifully after 15 mins of continous beating. the marshmellow topping was a nightmare, sticky gloopy and when smothed over the cake you could see through it it did not look good at all. however i covered in white choc stars, pink glitter, and 12 cherrys and now looks more presentable, but i did have to load the white chocolate stars on to make it look better presented, does look good, tastes fairly good, would be nice with coconut !, had to leave to set in the fridge for a long time, and while im on timing, the cake took 45 mins to cook certainly not 25 !. this recipe was ok, luckily i only had to buy the yoghurt as had the other ingrediants already otherwise would have been an expensive mess ! x

  The topping is impossible to work with. I found it hard to spread out, and when cool, extremely difficult to cu. The knife stuck to the topping and dragged it off the cake as I cut threough. Better by far to ignre the listed topping and make a buttercream or similar. The cake itself is OK, but nothing special.

  The sponge itself is OK, nothing special. but I suggest you use your own topping, the one listed above is just impossible to spread, and when cool impossible to cut. BEWARE!!

  I really wanted to give this recipe 5 stars... but I really didn't like the marshmallow topping. I have tried this type of topping before for other cakes, and it really doesn't work well for me, so I didn't even bother with it. I made the sponge as directed above and it was delicious, lots of compliments from the in-laws! I think the yogurt made all the difference. I topped it with buttercream and glacé cherries. Would definitely make again - but only the sponge.

  Strange recipe but the cake turned out fine and was delicious! Took note of the comments about the frosting so just used plain icing sugar to coat the top, followed by a drizzle of melted pink marshmallow (just load onto a teaspoon and make funky crisscross lines as it falls onto the cake). V easy and v effective!

  I made these a couple of weeks ago and have to say I agree with some of the previous comments the cake mixture was nice but the marshmallow topping is impossible to work with! When you are spreading it on top of the cake it is pulling the cake mixture off and I too covered it with foil to keep fresh and this was a big mistake- the whole topping was pulled off along with the foil when we came to eat it! Tasted good but frustrating end result.

  First time I made these cakes I put a glace icing on the top and they were very popular. This time I made the marshmallow topping. Nightmare to cut but warmed the knife and then much better. Very pleased with how they looked- then coved them in cling film :-((( they stuck to the cling film and came off. Had to make glace icing again!

  Had no problems with this recipe. Easy cake mix in one bowl-agree I would certainly add more cherries, or even coconut, just to vary the texture. I made frosting with pink marshmallows, put it onto a cold cake whilst still warm and it was fine. spread easy and set overnight. Like the idea of adding sprinkles, flowers etc

  I'm glad I didn't read all the negative comments about the frosting; this recipe is lovely and the topping worked really well. Just make sure that all the marshmallow is stirred into the milk when it's still warm and keep an eye on it while it cools. You want to spread it when it's spreadable (not rocket science) and not cover with clingfilm (again not rocket science). As for the cake mix itself, it was dead easy, the only downside is that chopping cherries and marshmallows is a bit of a faf, but worth it as everyone who tried it thought it was delicious.
