Japanese-style beef salad

Method

  1. Brush the steak with 1 tsp oil and season. Heat a frying or griddle pan until very hot then sear the steak for 2 minutes each side. rest for 5 minutes and thinly slice.
  2. Mix the dressing ingredients together. arrange the steak and baby gem on two plates, pour over the dressing and scatter with radishes.

    This is a delicious salad. Everything went so well together. Wasn't sure how the dressing would turn out as not sure if what I had in the cupboard was mirin....I had rice wine, but mirin is apparently clear and really sweet and the stuff I had wasn't...but I added some sugar to it and it seemed to work out ok. Tasted good anyway! Did the steak for 1.5 mins each side as wanted it medium rare.

    YUM!!! Looked spectacular on the plate and tasted delicious. Couldn't find any mirin at the local supermarket, so used some dry sherry instead, worked well.

  • oil for frying
