Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs wholemeal flour
  • 2 heaped teaspoons of bread/bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 pint buttermilk

Method

  • STEP 1
    Preheat the oven to 200C/fan 190C.
  • STEP 2
    Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  • STEP 3
    Divide the mixture between 2 loaf tins and level the tops.
  • STEP 4
    Place in the oven for 50 minutes.
  • STEP 5
    Once cooked, remove from the tins immediately and wrap in a clean tea towel to prevent the crust getting too hard.
