Method

  1. Prick each cranberry a couple of times with a fork and layer up in a large sterilised Kilner jar with the sugar. Pour over the vodka and leave for 2 weeks, shaking the jar each day.
  2. Strain and decant into decorative bottles. Seal and label.

Which vodka?

You can happily use unbranded vodka for this as the cranberries provide the main bittersweet flavour.

I have made this the last 2 years and given to friends as Christmas presents. They all return the bottles and ask for refills next year! Just bought the cranberries for this years batch! Makes thinking what to get people really easy when they tell you what they want. I just use the cheapest unbranded vodka I can find and it's delicious.

Made exactly as per the recipe and it's now ready for drinking! Absolutely delicious. I'm also going to give some as Christmas presents, and will definitely be making it again!

i did this one with icing sugar and put in blackberries, raspberries and cherries (pricked). it is bit sweet so i've added an extra 150mls vodka. Not sure if it'll last long enough to be given away

Tried as recommended with excellent results. Really easy to make and is a great gift as most people have no idea how to make it... Also tried with different fruits / booze which also seems to work although I would not recommend mixing more than one fruit. My personal recommendation is to use less sugar (100 to 120g depending on the sweetness of fruit) and to cut up the fruit into little pieces to get the most of it. My favourate recipe is raspberry gin... great but very addictive...

Excellent, though I used 150g caster sugar. BTW As with sloes, if you freeze the cranberries first you don't need to prick them. The vodka hitting the cold fruit induces "temperature shock".

We made it to give as presents, but at the rate we've been drinking it I've had to go out and buy more cranberries and vodka.
