Eating the vegan way
Veganism is a lifestyle that avoids using any animal products for food or clothing. A vegan diet will not include any red and white meats, fish and other water creatures, eggs, dairy and insect products such as honey and cochineal.
By doing so vegans believe there is no damaging animal protein, animal fats or cholesterol in the diet. Instead, vegans are more likely to include in their diet a wide range of healthy foods high in vegetable protein, fibre, complex carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and good fats.
Vegan diets are usually full of fresh fruit and veg, a wide range of pulses, including peas, beans and lentils, wholegrain pastas, breads and rice, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices and vegetable oils - especially flaxseed and virgin olive oil.
