What's in season: December
Clementines
If you find a clementine stuffed in the toe of your Christmas stocking, slice it up with grapefruit for a zingy start to the day, or, buy in bulk at the grocers and make a bright, seedless jelly from the sweet juice.
-
Salsify
This stick-like root veg is quite hard to find, because it's so difficult to harvest. If you manage to buy some, try the creamy flesh cubed then baked with chicken or pork.
-
Pomegranates
A pomegranate's tough exterior hides the brilliant red seed pulp inside - pick out with a pin to eat one by one. Either way, pomegranates are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants.
-
Brussels sprouts
Buy sprouts on the stalk to ensure they're at their freshest - remember you can also serve the leafy tops of the stalk, just boil like cabbage.
