All the fun of the farm
On June 10 2007 you can find out more about how farms are run, thanks to Open Farm Day.
Lyndsey Rolf is a LEAF Demonstration farmer in Ely, Cambridgeshire. She is opening Hainey Farm again this year, and has arranged farm tours, a machinery display, crop information and tasting, barbecue and a mini farmers' market with other local producers.
People last year got to see who farmers really are and what they really do...Visiting an open farm really does make a difference to people's preconceptions.
Lyndsay says people were surprised by how many young people are involved in the farming business.
"Children loved the day, hunting for bugs in the fields & crops, tasting different salad crops, having a ride on a tractor and trailer..."
What else is happening...
If you are in or near Gloucester, St Augustine's Farm's entry says: "Come right into the milking parlour at about 3.30pm to watch the cows being milked and talk to the cowman as he works. Help feed the calves morning and afternoon. We can promise you will be able to spend a day on a farm, meeting our animals, walking in our fields and enjoying your day in the country."
