Antony Worrall Thompson

A popular TV chef, Antony was a regular face on Ready Steady Cook and now presents Saturday Cooks! on ITV

Antony grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, was educated at Kings School in Canterbury and went on to study Hotel and Catering Management at Westminster College. In 1978 he made the move to London and after a month working in Brinkley's Restaurant was promoted to head chef.

After travelling around France for three years Antony returned to London and in 1981 he opened his own restaurant Ménage a Trois which was known to be the Princess of Wales' favourite place to eat. It was the only place in London to serve just starters and puddings.

Strong success

Antony's resumé is impressive, he has launched numerous restaurants in the competitive London eating scene and all have been huge successes, attracting high profile diners and lots of media attention.

In 1987 he was awarded the Meilleur Ouvrier de Grande Bretagne (MOGB) - the chef's equivalent of an Oscar. This is awarded in the Académies Culinaires competition, run every four years to find the most talented chefs in the country.

Antony has published a number of successful cookbooks and is especially keen on educating people about health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. He is a campaigner for organic food and Farmers' Markets and grows a variety of herbs for his restaurants. A keen gardener, he recently bought an avocado farm in Spain where he and his family escape to for holidays when they can.

A strong character in the British chef scene, Antony's talents don't stop in the kitchen. He is a keen tennis player and swimmer and swam the channel when he was just 16.
