CookIt! finalists revealed
Some of the country's most talented young cooks have qualified for the CookIt! competition final with their creative and delicious dishes.
Kids take over the kitchen
Six promising young cooks have reached the final of the Guild of Food Writers CookIt! Competition generously sponsored by The Flour and Grain Education Programme and are now practising their menus at home in preparation for the final judging.
How they got there
The finalists were selected from entries of hopeful young cooks from all around the UK who had to create a two course menu of main course and dessert. This year's theme is '007 - Licenced to Bake' and one of the dishes had to be baked to encourage the traditional skills of pie, cake or biscuit making amongst children.
The final 'cook off'
The final takes place in London on Thursday 24 May in the BBC Good Food Magazine test kitchen. This year's judges include celebrity chef Marcus Wareing (BBC2's Great British Menu), cookery writer Sophie Grigson, chef Mark Hix (Executive Chef, Caprice Holdings) and BBC Good Food Magazine's Food Director Sara Buenfeld.
The prize
The fabulous First Prize is a 2 night trip to Paris (for the winning child and 1 adult) including a guided culinary tour with a French speaking Guild of Food Writers' member courtesy of Airmiles. What a great way to introduce wonderful food to a child!
