Gift packages for the family

Posted at , 23 November 2012 by Lily Barclay - Writer, bbcgoodfood.com

Buying a present for the whole house is a great way of taking some of the stress out of Christmas, as it cuts out all those individual gifts and general shopping stress. If you combine your budget for the whole household as one big gift you can also get some really show-stopping results...

The chocolate package

Heading to a house where they appreciate a chocolate or two? Bring them the very finest of chocolatey treats and you're sure to be staying in a very happy household. Got a few little ones running round in circles? Throw in some classic milk reindeers and Santa Clauses for good measure.

Hotel Chocolat red wine for chocolate
Hotel Chocolate believes they have found the perfect wine to partner chocolate, and frankly we'd be willing to give it a go. Perfect for a lazy Boxing Day afternoon - although you may need a brisk afternoon stroll to walk it off.

Combine with...

William Curley hot chocolate
Hot chocolate doesn't get much more luxurious than William Curly's spicy variety, Toscana shavings are blended with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. We are pretty sure it will be a hit with grown-ups and kids alike.
Hot chocolate powders, £15, William Curley

or...

Amelia Rope chocolate bars
These beautifully bundled chocolate bars from Amelia Rope are almost worth buying for the packaging alone. The chocolate is so intense that three bars will be plenty to go round the family. We love pale lemon & sea salt, pale hazelnut & sea salt and pale lime & sea salt, but there are plenty of imaginative flavours to choose from.

and finally...

The Sleekster classic Christmas selection
This generous Christmas selection pack from Hotel Chocolat pretty much offers something for everyone in the family, from mulled wine truffles, to clementine, gingerbread and more.

The cheese package

Who can resist a cheeseboard at Christmas? Greet your family with one of these and they're sure to be rocking around the Christmas tree. Check out our ideas for a top cheesy gift...

John Lewis cheeseboard
John Lewis white marble cheeseboard, is a great way of adding a bit of swank to your gift and it's nice to have a reminder of your present long after the last crumbs of your feast have been swept away.

Combine with...

The cheese
It's Christmas so it has to be Stilton - Cropwell Bishop cheese comes in lovely clay pot jars, which make pretty gifts and their cheese is delicious too. If you are expecting lots of family and friends as well as kids to be getting stuck in, you might want to have some fairly mild varieties to hand too, you can't go wrong with a Cornish Yarg, which is creamy and mild with a crumbly centre.

To round it all off perfectly, we'd recommend something soft and spreadable like a Caerney Pepper goat's cheese - delicious.

and finally...

Biscuits for the cheese selection box

This fun box of Fortnum & Mason biscuits will add a touch of extravagance to your gift without breaking the bank. Biscuits include, butter thins, malted morsels, charcoal crunches and walnut wafers.

The Bay Tree farmhouse pickle

This perfectly balanced pickle is just the thing to serve alongside a selection of cheeses as it goes with all manner of different varieties.

Finally, add some grapes or figs into the mix for presentation's sake and you should have yourself a corker of a present.

The practical family package

A box of fruit and veg might not seem like the most adventurous of gifts but this Christmas Day box is bound to be gratefully received, and everyone will love you for making that last-minute panic shop a bit easier. Spruce it up by adding little extras to suit everyone in the family, you'll be able to find everything from mince pies to eggs, cheese and bread.

Young family

Remember to add something for Rudolf into your Christmas package and you will be popular with kids and reindeers alike. We love this festive bag of edible reindeer food, and it's good enough for Santa to get stuck into too, should the urge so take him.

Make it extra luxurious

Willing to bust the budget? Orange and Champagne marmalade is certain to make a luxurious start to the day, and should keep things on a light and bubbly note.
