Top 10 chocolate gifts for Easter

1. Chewy Caramel and Macadamia Egg Split, £7, Marks and Spencer
This M&S egg uses the latest edible transfers to create a pretty pattern on the creamy milk chocolate half egg. The hollow egg is set with a feast of salted macadamia nuts and handmade chunks of chewy caramel. The sweet-salt mix is so highly addictive I ate it all in one go.
2. Lewis the Lamb, £1.99, Sainsbury's
Poor Lewis the Lamb - by his expression he looks like he knows his time is up! He's a decent size for one, and his marshmallow fleece is a nice change from the usual white chocolate curls. A winner from Sainsbury's.
3. Lily of the Valley Easter Egg, £19.95, Betty's
Betty's are more famous for their cakes than their chocolate, but even though it can be expensive, it's always great quality and beautifully decorated. If you love violet creams you'll love this. It's a dark chocolate egg flavoured with fragrant Lily of the Valley; the taste is subtle rather than soapy.
4. Giant Belgian Easter Egg, £10, Asda
Now this is what I call an Easter egg! If you're anything like me it's the quantity of chocolate that counts. This is a bit of a bargain, a huge 1kg egg made from Belgian milk chocolate. I like that Asda haven't gone overboard with the packaging, which has undoubtedly kept the price down too.
5. Truly Irresistible Fairtrade Hot Cross Bun Easter egg, £8.40, The Co-operative
Confession time: I've made myself a hot cross bun-Easter egg sandwich before (take a bun, slice in two and fill with Easter egg... you get the idea) but no longer. Co-op's Hot Cross Bun Easter Egg is exactly what it says, a milk chocolate egg flavoured with spices and studded with raisins. It even has a white chocolate cross piped on the front. If you still need convincing, it's made with Fairtrade ingredients so is ethical too.
6. Scatola di uova confettate, £7.95, Carluccio's stores
I love Carluccio's Easter egg boxes, which have a proper spring feel to them. The range includes hard boiled eggs filled with hazelnut paste and my favourite, a pastel-coloured egg box filled with four pretty sugared 'real egg-sized' milk chocolate eggs.
7. Organic Dairy Free Easter Egg, £3.99, Moo Free Chocolate
It can be really difficult finding a decent egg for someone on a dairy-free diet. Whilst I'd have liked prettier packaging, the egg itself is lovely and creamy. The whole family will scoff this Moo Free egg with no complaints.
8. Egg and Chips, £12, Hotel Chocolat
Hotel Chocolat always do something a little different, this year they're serving up their take on egg and chips. The egg is actually a creamy white chocolate egg with a soft caramel yolk, served alongside milk chocolate caramel-filled chips. Less 'girlie' looking than most this would be a good choice if you are buying for a man on the proviso, of course, that you can pinch a chip or two.
9. Fluffy bunnies, £14.99 each, Artisan du Chocolat
Eggs are great but don't abandon the chocolate bunny. These über chic rabbits from Artisan du Chocolat are sprayed in different colours with natural cocoa butter to create a fluffy effect.
10. Flowerpot, £7.50 each, Cocoapod
If eggs and rabbits are just too passé then say it with flowers. This pretty flowerpot is handmade by Kent's artisan chocolate makers Cocoapod. Not too creamy, the flower is made from hand-painted white chocolate with a milk chocolate pot. Everything is edible except the lolly stick!
