A right royal feast

Whether you're a royalist or not, there's no denying that the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th will be dominating the news over the next few weeks.

Food and drink manufacturers have seized the forthcoming event to launch a variety of products on an eager public - and who can blame them, as the recession has eaten into (no pun intended) their profits?
My favourite is the pub and restaurant chain that has turned one of the official royal engagement photographs into edible art in the form of a roast dinner. Turkey provides the couple with skin; gravy marks out their facial features and beef forms their hair. William's shirt is made from green beans and sprouts, while carrots create Kate's dress. The wedding will be lucrative for pubs and restaurants in England and Wales, as theyâÂÂll be granted extended opening hours during the Royal Wedding, allowing them to serve food and alcohol until 1am on the festive weekend.
Street parties throughout the land can tuck into 'Kate and Wills pie' containing British beef, wine, bacon, onions, mushrooms and brandy. There are lots of commemorative cakes - in patriotic red, white and blue of course, along with tins of biscuits and shortbread bearing photos of the royal couple and Royal Wedding chocolate bars, Union Jack chocolates and Poire William chocolate truffles.
If you're planning on something more upmarket, several companies have entered into the celebratory spirit and are offering a 'Royal Wedding Hamper', containing traditional British favourites such as ham, Earl Grey, and Victoria Sandwich cake.
A limited edition box of 'Love Hearts' those brightly coloured fizzy sweets, much loved by generations of children, will be sold in a commemorative gift box, with 'Just married' inscribed on the sweets. Another enterprising company, based in Yorkshire, on hearing that Kate loves its sweets, launched 'Hearts and Rings and Other Nice Things', which will be available exclusively at Kate Middleton's local shop in Berkshire.
If you're in London for the big occasion, you'll be able to buy a Royal Wedding lunch box containing a two course cold meal, with a choice of chicken or salmon or a vegetarian option, complete with cutlery, napkin, salt and pepper.
As most of us will be watching the wedding on television, we can toast the happy couple with a glass of 'Prince William' Champagne. British brewers too have always celebrated Royal events with celebratory brews and for this wedding there's 'Kiss Me Kate' ale.
What commemorative food would you make for the wedding?
