The 'o' word

Posted at , 01 April 2009 by Christine Hayes - Editor, olive magazine

This month, Gordon Ramsay is olive magazine's guest editor, and speaking as its everyday, run-of-the-mill editor, I think he's done a pretty good job.

Ok, let's be upfront about it: we didn't chain the superchef to a Mac or lock him in our test kitchen for the month, but he did plan a substantial part of the magazine and his influence can be felt throughout the pages.

He lets us in on his favourite recipes, profiles the chefs and restaurants he rates, and highlights the world's most exciting cities for food lovers, including his tips for affordable places to eat in London, Paris, NYC, LA and Tokyo.

We asked Gordon to be our first-ever guest editor because we knew he'd bring his sense of humour to the job. You might expect a Michelin-starred chef to love white truffle risotto and Puligny-Montrachet, but who knew he'd harbour a secret passion for Jaffa Cakes? And anyone who'd invite both Chris Moyles AND Victoria Beckham to dinner has got to be game for a laugh...

So what did you think about Gordon's efforts? Is there anyone else you'd like to guest-edit olive? Or do you think a chef's place is in the kitchen?

Open QuoteI am an avid reader of Olive Magazine and I think that Gordon's contribution as a guest editor was an asset, loved Gordon uncovered, he has so much passion that he is a breath if fresh air in an industry that is turning into a "ready made" one. I have tried his recepies and they always turn out perfect. I know he like to try new recepies and trends and I hope to meet him one day and give him a taste of true Peruvian food which I am sure he will enjoy. Good on you Gordon and keep the good food flag flying!! Maria del Carmen Esquerre Watford
